Department of Design Hosts Fall Fashion Show During Family and Friends Weekend

Last Saturday, the Department of Design hosted their annual Fall Fashion Show for Family and Friends Weekend. It was put on in the Performance Hub in the Artis Center Atrium. The show opened with a welcoming from Dr. Holly Cline, Chair of the Department Design. “Now you are about to see some amazing student work, we teach our students how to be successful garments you see today were designed and constructed by fashion design students in the department,” Cline shared. The fashion show consisted of around 30 outfits, designed and shown off by students. In an interview with a few of the fashion design students who worked behind the scenes, Ethan Tickle, a junior shared, “they have been preparing for the fashion show since the beginning of the semester.” Collectively, the students shared that a lot of the work that happened behind the scenes includes measuring the models, fitting them, and getting enough models to sign up. One student shared that one of her outfits, a jean dress with a sweater on top, which was made during her sophomore year, was showcased on the runway. During Cline’s closing remarks, she introduced and showed gratitude towards Kathy Mitchell, a retired faculty member, who helped put on the fall fashion show.

In an interview with Cline, she shared that “the beautiful thing about this event is that it showcases our student’s work, it showcases the talent of our students, but then it also brings together so many students that are not our majors, where they model.” Cline also added, “it is great to see the student progression. It is also great for students to see their stuff walking down the runway.”

The Department of Design prides itself in showing off its student’s hard work and dedication to the program. Check out the CVPA calendar at radford.edu to stay up to date on future events like this one.
