Opinion: Navigating Radford Transit System

By: Keiko Kliisiewecz

Radford Transit is the public transportation system that circles campus and other Radford, Christiansburg, Blacksburg and Fairlawn locations. Despite the buses covering vast distances, I rarely see my fellow students use them, with a reason for many being that they feel intimidated. To help ease students’ stressors, here are my must-know for students about Radford Transit:

Do not trust the Passio Go App

Passio Go is the Radford Transit app and unfortunately, it is rarely accurate.  Therefore, you should trust the schedules given online and not the app. To find them, simply look up Radford transit, select the route you want and follow that schedule instead. In the event you have issues, you can always call Radford Transit, press 1 and talk to dispatch.

Bus Schedule Days

Monday-Saturday: almost every bus runs

Sunday: only 10 buses run

Common Bus Routes for Students

11 & 10: Circles campus and goes to the Dedmon Center, the student parking lots and Greenhill Apartments.

25: Fairlawn bus takes you to the Kroger Complex, Walmart, the Radford Public Library or CVS.

20: Food Lion, Food City, Copper Beech Apartments and Ridgeway.

50: Covers most of campus and darkside apartments such as Highlander Village and Fairfax.

15: The combination of 10, 11 and 15 that runs on Saturdays.

30: West End Radford such as NRV Community Center and Radford Coffee Co. and lightside apartments, such as Fairfax and Lawrence, can only be caught from the Hub.

The Hub

Where almost all buses meet at either the half hour and/or the hour mark, located just below Muse past the stoplight. If you’re unsure on where to catch a bus on campus, this is your place to be.

Speak Up

Do not be afraid to speak up and simply ask about bus routes from drivers directly. What they don’t know is usually only a radio call away. Most of the drivers I have encountered are more than happy to talk to students. Don’t be shy and ask if you are unsure. A great opportunity to do this is with the route 10 bus, which has a time check, a time where they wait, at Fairfax Station (the bus stop closest to the Bonnie) at both :25 and :55 of the hour. Get there a few minutes early and you can ask the driver questions.
